Give a shout out to Liam for quitting the paci!!

Woo-hoo, little man! It's been 8 days since his last paci and he's handling it like a champ.

The quit date was imposed on him last Wednesday during nap when, in a rage at being sent to bed, he chewed through his paci like a rabid wolverine. Well, once I found both parts of silicone, I decided that was his last suck!

He still has his pink lovie and his tribe of kitties to comfort him.

I'm in no rush to rid him of those crutches.

This just in - Look! A Kitty Diaper

I was giving Chris a hug so initially I could only imagine what this might mean. Oh, it's quite literal. I turned and looked down and the Bub had no pants on and his favorite kitty clamped between his thighs!

Voila! Kitty Diaper.

Dust Bunnies Are Real and Technicolored

Liam is really into tickling his feet with his lovey. But that's a whole other story! Today he noted that some of his toe lint had gone missing.

"Where'd the toe fuzzies go?"

I think they snuck away and went under the bed with the dust bunnies.

"Let's look for the DUST BUNNIES!"

*peers under bed*

"I SEE them!!"

What color are they?

"They're blue! And black. And purple."

So, there's THAT mystery solved.

A Christmas Tradition: The Gingerbread House

Chris and I started this tradition on our "first date". This year, we included Bub who had a great time eating the majority of the decorations and then nearly exploding from the ensuing sugar rush.

Puh-LEASE! Parenting websites just don't understand.

This is all well and good, but what do you say when your toddler bounces into your lap and spills your full glass of "Vitamin W" all over the couch, your outfit and the cat????

I call bullshit and think a grandmother must have come up with this list!

You want your child to:Instead of this:Say this:Which is better because:
Go to bed and stay there"If you get out of bed one more time, I'll scream.""After I put you to bed, I expect you to stay there."The expectation for the behavior is clear and unemotional.

Brush her teeth"No bedtime story if you don't brush your teeth.""It's time for bed. What do you do first to get ready?"It lets her know it's time for her bedtime routine without being punitive.
Behave in the grocery store"Stop running now or no TV when we get home.""Can you help me find the cereal you like?"It distracts from the negative behavior and offers a positive alternative.

Be quiet in the car"If you scream one more time, we'll turn around and go home.""I'm having a hard time driving. I need to pull over until you're settled."It lets your child know the effect, limits, and consequences of her behavior.

Take It or Leave It

Liam has been on a "hot milk" kick and it's just that much more of a pain to warm up his milk than not. So, recently, when he requested more milk I just poured some from the fridge and handed it to him.

"Not cold milk, Mama, HOT milk!"

"Take it or leave it, Liam."

*puts cup on counter*

"I think I'll leave it."

Cars 2 isn't Cars

Liam would watch Cars movie everyday, twice a day. I've been trying to get my hands on Cars 2 for weeks. Well, that was a waste of time. Much like it was a waste of money to take him to the theater to see it and he only liked the popcorn.
I popped it in the DVD player and tried to keep his attention but only he liked 10 seconds of it where the cars were racing through Tokyo and spent the next 10 minutes asking, "Where'd the race go, Mama?"
