We saw a whole lot of baby today and there is no doubt that we're having a little boy!

Now to break the news to Bub who's convinced that we're having a little girl. Awkward....

I'm sure he'll figure out quickly enough that this means there will be twice as many trucks to play with.  And it means I get to remain The Princess Brat!

Deee - lish!

Yes, so many of my pictures of Bub are of him eating. But that's really the only time he's still. And even then he's often spinning or leaping.

Trip to the reservoir

Friday's mild weather allowed us to visit the reservoir near our house.
Bub ran after birds,

got a ride from Daddy,

and enjoyed throwing rocks into the water.

Here's Chris teaching him to skip stones.

The Bean at 20 weeks

Here we are, already halfway done cooking this baby!  20 weeks.  Wow.

And it looks like someone else has had a growth spurt! I love that this picture makes Chris look like he's gotten too tall for our house.  We're gonna need a bigger boat.

It's a three dog night.

Bub had some terrible dreams this evening and could not be calmed.  Finally, after struggling to settle him for an hour, we brought him into our room.  Having him between us didn't work at all.  He's camped out on his old crib mattress, hugging a book about space, wishing it were morning.  Sleep, Little Bub.

Feeling demure today

We went in for the full anatomy scan this morning.   Little Beany looks to be developing beautifully and everything is just how it should be.

The question of gender remains a mystery though.   Baby wasn't giving up the goods!

Our Rainbow

Bub and I saw a magical double rainbow yesterday!

What's 40" tall and breathes like Darth Vadar?

My little roommate.

And speaking of breathing: the last few nights, whenever I yawn deeply, Beany decides that things are getting a little too snug in his home and decides to deliver a big POKE.  It's a funny little game now.  I try to get through the yawn and he tries to give a bigger POKE!

My Roomie

Chris is quarantined to the bedroom with some evil South Carolininian virus.  So, Bub and I are bunking in together. He doesn't snore as loudly as his father but he's no slouch, either.

New Beachfront Construction

Bub and I enjoyed building and destroying some new beachfront communities today.  Bub was very brave and stood in the waves all by himself!  Then we chased some birds and called it a day.

Someone stole Mama/s shades.

The Valley of the Kings

Krispy Kreme

After we stuffed ourselves with warm donuts, we hit the boardwalk.  Bub looks like he's on shore leave!

Single handedly keeping the non-profits in business

Back in July, we bought a family membership to the Cape Cod Children's Museum with reciprocal privileges nationally at other children's museums.  Now, did I use this membership today when we visited the South Carolina Children's Museum?  Heck no!  Sleep deprivation = philanthropy!  Oh, well, they were so few people there that I would have felt guilty asking for my money back.

Liam did have a great time digging for dinosaur bones and making pretend pizza and playing with this new toy called "Thomas the Train"?  Maybe we'll have to get one of those for home.
Pictures to follow :)

Ripley's Aquarium was AWESOME!

Reaching for some horseshoe crabs,

Bub tries on his new shoes: mini cereal boxes. At dawn. Joy!

Sticks of Lightening

There was a big rain storm last night at Myrtle Beach and we were lucky enough to watch the show from our balcony.  The bolts were lighting up the clouds and streaking down into the ocean.  Bub was so excited!!  He couldn't speak fast enough to get out all the words and thoughts he had about the "lightening sticks" as he called them.
He performed a drum solo on the deck furniture to "help the lightening" and he demonstrated how the "sticks" were jumping down out of the sky.  Imagine a small boy jabbing at the air with finger lightening, and making explosion noises, spit flying, vibrating with excitement.  Pah-kew! Pah-kew! Pah-KEW!

As the night got cooler, he kept running inside to request more blankets to wrap himself in until he was a little burrito and we were out of blankets.

Here's Bub on the balcony,

checking out our beach,

getting in some swimming with Daddy.

Insight into Bub's Personality

I've read that a parenting trick is to always give your toddler options to provide the element of control they so desire.  If you want to steer your toddler towards one choice, you should list it first.  Well, that doesn't work with my kid.  Two examples from this morning:

Do you want to watch Diego or Timmy Time?

"Kai Lan!"

Do you want vanilla or strawberry milk?

Clearly, I need a new parenting resource because we're off the reservation over here!

His outspokenness is a least tempered with good grammar.  Last night he crunched through the variations of "me" and "I" and settled on "Mama and I are having dinner."  At least he's a well-spoken precocious child.

Ok, Bean.
