Museum Saturday

Cubby and I went to the Museum of Science, ran around the gift shop (twice), ate a muffin, ran around some more near the festive T-Rex and he konked out.

Playing in the snow with Daddy

Santa Claus

Museum Friday

Bub and I hit up the Natural History Muses and then had lunch and did some shopping in Harvard Square.   The secret to a happy Bub is 100 percent of my undivided attention.  (Well, it works out every once in a while!)
It makes me pretty happy, too.

In case of a turkey related disaster

Here's evidence that we pulled off this edible craft project.

And here's a "moody monster" cookie creation by Bub.

Thankful for my wacky family!

The boys' art

Cubby painted an apple (also a favorite word to say these days) with a hand print leaf.
Liam made a jellyfish and an autumnal scene.

A Fall Day with the Fellas

It was warm and sunny and we were waking up the neighborhood with the races and scream - talking and fort building.

Keeping it fresh with dragons

Bub earned a big time reward today by cooperating at an important doctors appointment. We had picked out this beast yesterday in preparation and I wrapped it up like a gift for him today open in the car.

I really think he enjoyed the ceremony if it all more than the toy, which was rather dear as you might guess by its size and detailed furious expression. But it was worth it. A happy Bub is a happy family.

If you ever think that you're not special

Cubby, let me tell you a secret : I used to sleep beside you when you were a little boy and I held your hand because I couldn't bear closing my eyes and being without you.

Bonks on school picture day and other stories of my life!.

No matter how perfectly you time the nap, your own shower, laundry day, pack appropriately enticing snacks.... Your (my) kid is going to fall 20 minutes before his class pictures and get a shiner.

We have a bug problem!

The great thing about dinosaurs is that they're extinct. No chance of running into a favorite dino in the backyard and saving it in a box. I can't say the same about our latest creature favorites.

Here are some deadly house wasps. And there's a disgustingly large grasshopper trapped in a box outside our garage.

Well good morning, 5 am!

Cubs and I are watching Tangled. If I'm up this early, I'm picking the Princess movie over Thomas!

Bub really is a free thinker

Part of having a strong willed child is being astonished by how well they know their own mind.

I took Bub to the Discovery Museum and we were playing with the sand  pendulum. I thought it would speak to his artistic side and it sure did! He wasn't worried, as I was, about following the instructions. I watched as he flung a wobbling arc with the sand funnel and my inner response was, oh, it's too bad that he's not doing this "right".  But he didn't care about seeing the careful loops spiraling across the slate,  or making a pattern. He would stop the funnel and swing it in a different arc, and he even shook out blobs of sand and wiggled it to "draw" with the sand.

This 5 year old is teaching me about the creative mind and having a truly free spirit . I am amazed by his process and mostly by his freedom from doing what is expected. I envy him! Yes, it makes life hard when he doesn't understand why doing exactly what he's told is important. But that might be a worthy struggle in light of true creativity and great art.  I have always wished that of any talent, I could be an artist. I think I have my moments. But maybe my masterpiece is this little life I made and get to foster.

And the #1 sign your child is riding a Halloween candy binge

He's talking in his sleep, pointing at the door,
"LOOK ! Look! LOOK! It's candy.... Candy.... "

Nope. Lay down.

Continue your candy dreams, Bub! Life doesn't get better.
