shhhh! there's something under my bed!

I think it's allosaurus.
And there's someone in my bed. The Cubster. We're none of us sleeping well these days. Me, actually. I'm sleeping poorly. I think everyone else is happy!

Beware of the Mama zombie.

Grown up in 7 1/2 hours!

Bub reports having had a great first day of school!

(That's the choir of Kitten Angels meowing at this miracle!)

First Day of Kindergarten!

My first baby got on the bus for kindergarten this morning!

The Three Musketeers

Boys, you are my favorites. The three of us snuggled up and watched a movie after dinner. I felt so happy to be in the middle of a son snuggle sandwich! I wish you could stay little forever....just maybe sleep longer?

Trying on Halloween costumes

I guess Cubby won't be a lion again this year!

These brothers sure can fight! But they also love each other more than I ever dreamed they could.

This last week of summer, we went to the mall and played at the playground and in the yard.

It was rough because we still have all of our Bub challenges and now Cubby is growing up into a maniac toddler. It's really lucky that we all love each other so much, especially the boys.

We had a crazy, busy week with Chris away from home. They both kept asking for their Daddy.

Cubby grins his biggest smile whenever we pick up Bub from school. And if Cubby is crying, Bub can soothe him quicker than I can with silly noises and tickles.

I'm so happy that we have such a close family, albeit a loud one at times.

Playing with "The Cousin"

Today, we met Cousin Sam at the Museum of Science. Bub was loving being an African Honey Bee (the most aggressive bee). We jumped on rocks from around the world and Cubby did this when he got his mits on the whole bag of Goldfish.

We might be obsessed with Davis Farmland!

My love bugs chased chickens, got dirty and ate ice cream. A perfect summer day. (for those two hours.... Come on, it's us! You know we were naughty at some point!)

Reptiles and ice cream!

We had quite the afternoon at Davis today. Bub got to hold a frog and (my new favorite reptile) a fat tailed gecko. He also pet a boa and a bearded dragon.
Cubby tamed this baby croc and eagerly baby smacked all the above reptiles.
Cubby very nearly was headbutt ed Little Rascals style by a surly goat. The boy was oblivious because he was something busy hugging the other goats.  Davis must have a LOT of insurance!
Then we had lots of sugar and ran around the gift barn with our friends.
Banner day behavior-wise!

I'm exHAUSTed but it was worth it to see them enjoying themselves so thoroughly. It's one of the few places where both boys can enjoy all of the activities. A nice send off to summer.

Bub designs t-shirts now

This is a unicorn t-shirt that Bub designed for me. I was dramatically laying on the floor, listing off the infinite wonderful things I do for my children that go unappreciated.
Bub got very stern and said I didn't remember that he appreciates when I buy him things and take him to Dairy Queen. Then he drew me this mock up of a shirt "that I can order online" because my favorite thing is unicorns.

Someone is supposed to be sleep trained.

But I'm a pushover.
Back to the boys room with you, Little Man.

At our Lake

We went for a dip in our favorite Lake this afternoon.
Cubby was typically fearless and tried to swim at every opportunity. Bub was trying out his new passion: fishing.
Then we went to dinner at Bub's favorite place. He sunk back into the booth, soaked in the pleasure of chocolate milk and chicken fingers.
"I love eating at restaurants!"
Why's that, Bub?
"It's so relaxing. And the food is much better than at home."

He redeemed himself later as I was in a snuggle sandwich with the Littles.

"Daddy, you'd get more attention if you were Mama. "

I guess he doesn't blame me for the lousy cooking.

He's lucky he's so cute.

Cubby is just about the craziest imp! He's "exerting his personality" rather strongly these days. Maybe I've mentioned this before?
Yesterday, he tried to turn on a large and heavy toy globe and when it didn't work he picked it up to smash it against the ground! Now, I have no idea where he gets this hot temper. Oh, wait, he's just like me. DAMN IT!

I earned these flowers, big time.

No? You're staying home with Daddy? I'm going to the supermarket.

Wait! Mama! I want to be with you!

(Ok. More work, but that's pretty cute.)  Get in the car.

I pushed the cart most of the way around the store with one hand, the other clutching Cubby's chubby thigh, trying to pin him into the baby seat. Bub was munching his corn muffin, running backwards through the aisles, nearly taking out shoppers at every turn.  Just your average, relaxing shopping trip with two maniacs.

We were almost done with our list and Bub says that he wants to buy me flowers. Awwwww! I know, super cute. And he picked the most expensive ones and could not be talked down to carnations, either.

Mama? Don't you want me to live with you forever?

He's the most charming little Devil when he wants to be. Yes, I do, Bub.

That nugget of glee in all the hard work. Worth it.

I took the double monkeys to the lake today.... by myself! Those parenting average children might not appreciate the effort involved in herding, packing, schlepping, and negotiating with two high energy boys. It's a frickin Olympic event.

Anyway, there we were. A gorgeous lake, happy family time, and I'm not sweating because I've gotten both boys to sync and we're all lolling about in the water. Bub even played nicely with two other boys after I made the introductions. (very amusing, I am his social attaché, after all)

45 minutes.

That's how long the nice part lasted.

Pack it up! I said take your shirt off first! No, don't eat that sand! *sweating, pushing a stroller and lugging our crap uphill * I changed in the parking lot. I don't care! I have zero shame!

Fortunately, I had Dairy Queen in my sights as a carrot, or Blizzard, since we're being honest.  Was it worth it? Yes! It's the memory of those 45 minutes that will blind me to the agony as I plan our next outing. And I'm cool with that.

Also, Cubby is 16 months old and we had a donut to celebrate!

When did he get so naughty?!

Cubby is a Terror Baby! ¹
He is suddenly wild with scratching and smashing and bashing.  He will try to beat us up to get his way and would totally win except we have the height advantage.
Do not be fooled. His sweetness is a guise. A guise, I say!

1. Likened to the Terror Birds of prehistoric times,  these beasts were dining on Saber tooth cats.
