I am indulging and buying cute baby clothes. But my baby is so "healthy" they often don't fit even though I'm buying generously over-sized outfits!
If I snap an adorable picture the one day he still squeezes into it I can still justify the purchase.
Chris may feel differently.
We spent Saturday at the Ecotarium with the little guys. Dylan hated his first train ride, poor kid!
Cubby had a fantastic time being the "big kid" and leading us around the museum.
We had a mostly disastrous dinner out at a pizza place, but it was amusing to see how well-behaved our kids are compared to a truly awful brat who sat beside us.
We really do have great kiddos.

It was the last day of school -- the first day of summer vacation! We (the Bigs and I) visited the Ecotarium. The train is up and running after years of being off line. It was a blast! All three of us squeezed into one seat and we held hands in the dark tunnel. This first train ride for Cubby brought back wonderful memories of riding the rails with a toddler Bub.
The weather was perfect, the children were moderately well-behaved, we found an eagle feather, bought a toy vulture, and ate a bunch of cookies and rock candy. So, ya know, a perfect day.
I would like to coast on the success of this outing for a few weeks.....however unlikely that is.

This little one is sweet and sass! He is ALWAYS happy to see me and demands that I put the baby down so that I can hold him. He likes to pretend that he is the baby and crawl into my lap. And he melts my heart when he gives me his big kisses. MMMMWAHHHHH!
And yet, he is impossibly bossy, demanding MORE! Cubby, what's the magic word? MAGIC WOOOOOORRRDDD!
In the car, I'm not allowed to sing to the music.
And tonight, I dared to eat a slice of HIS pizza....I thought he might chew my ankles off.
I will miss him so much when he starts camp in a few weeks, but I also might get to hold my baby without getting yelled at.
He will stomp the sh*t out of your flower beds and then he'll feel bad about it and make you a new plant (out of paper).
He will also stage a dramatic presentation where he dumps his allowance jar into the trash can, demonstrating that he will pay for a new plant.

Bub's latest artwork was inspired by a new book he chose as a reward for cooperating at the doctor's office.
He had his 7 year check up and he's 70 lbs and 50" tall! (He's 85 months old, for those of you still keeping track.)
The sunflower sculpture is also a Bub original.

Pickle is nearly 6! Months! Old!
I can't stand it. He's outgrown just about all of his 6 to 12 months clothes and I'm buying him 12 to 18 months!
20 pounds. Yup. He's a good eater.
He's starting to eat purees. So far, pumpkin and pears are his favorites.
I swear, he's said MAMA already....
He can sit up with a bit of help and he's grabbing at everything, trying to put it in his mouth.
His eyes are still a mix, but they're leaning towards brown.
He has the BEST little chortle.

So often these days, I'm walking around with a furrowed brow, worried or tired. But little Jake Apples is there to lift my spirits.
"Where is your smile!? " he'll demand.
And it gets me grinning every time.
We saw The Jungle Book movie yesterday. For real! All 5 of us! It was as chaotic as you'd imagine: Cubby hadn't been to a movie since he was 6 weeks old, Bub had his headphones and was nervous, and Pickle had never been to a movie.
But we did it and everyone loved the movie!
After all that popcorn, we still managed to convince the troops to head to a restaurant so Mama wouldn't have to cook on her birthday. We had the covered patio all to ourselves (it was raining) and that was perfect. The boys could be silly and move around (and stab tortilla chips with a fork) and Chris and I got to eat.
Cake, cake, cake for dessert at home....it was an awesome birthday!

We enjoyed an AMAZING evening as a family at the Autism Alliance of Metrowest's, Sunset at the Zoo event.
It was after hours and only for special families like ours. We were all so excited to be greeted with snacks and goodie bags. We hiked around for 2 hours and then had a sunset picnic in our car. It was magical!
Our favorite things were hearing the daddy lion roar, watching the monkeys wrestle, feeding the deer and seeing a baby goat who had just been born! And the M&Ms.

I may have bought lettuce just to keep up the pretense that we are healthy. In all honesty, it was all about the ice cream truck, the fresh lemonade and petting fuzzy alpacas. And my new book about Pompeii that I scored for 50 cents at the library book sale!
